On Tuesday heavy rain lashed in several parts of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry especially in Chennai. Low-lying areas completely drowned in the rain water and almost all areas are flooded in water. Train and bus services are also disrupted.
Director of the regional meteorological department, Chennai, S.R. Ramanan said, for next 10-12 hours are crucial for Chennai as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rains. He also says heavy rain will continue in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for next 4 days. It is predicted that heavy rain will still make the situation go worse.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaaa actioned immediately to the situation and ordered ministers to inspect the affected regions. While Jayalalithaa also said police, fire and rescue, NDRF and State Disaster Force and Coast Guard services to be alert to tackle the situation. Government also announced to keep schools remain closed till the situation backs to normal and half-yearly exams are also postponed to January,2016.
Many MNCs in Chennai declared holiday as knee-length water flooded in the office entrances. As low-pressure still remains Government has announced public to move the safer regions and to contact helplines.
