BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was invited to Madras to deliver Nani Palkhivala Memorial Lecture at University of Madras yesterday. The chief minister of Tamilnadu J Jayalalitha, who is a good friend of Narendra Modi did not meet him when he came to Chennai.
Sources say that some of the senior officials took effort to arrange a meeting between Jayalalitha and Narendra Modi. But J Jayalalitha did not want to meet Modi. The Congress party was excited about the news and Renuka Chowdhury, a spokesperson in Delhi said that Narendra Modi had just begun his political chapter and Jayalalitha had been a very big player for a long time.
Sources from Jayalalitha say that though she shares a rapport with Narendra Modi, she wanted to maintain a equidistance from the two national parties for time being.
