The Metro rail system was started in Chennai in association with other state agencies in the city. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has transplanted a huge banyan tree recently.
The tree in the premises of Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital is over 120 years-old. The tree was uprooted in the recent rain in Chennai city.
The institution was founded in the year 1960 and the tree seems to be much older than the institution. Dr P Ramakrishnan, Dean of Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital said that the tree is a proud heritage and symbol of their service to people. He also said that they are happy with the transplantation of the tree.
