Defamation Case: Exception for Premalatha to appear in person

Madras High Court excluded Premalatha, wife of DMDK leader Vijayakanth to appear in person for the case filed against her. The Court session that included Mathivanan and Vasuki issued the order.

The government of Tamilnadu filed a defamation case against Premalatha for her remark concerning Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha at a Public meeting held in Valluvarkotam, Chennai on 13 March 2013. Premalatha mentioned in the public meeting that due to increase in government alcohol shops, young people get addicted to alcohol and such activities increases sexual abuses and other crimes.

She also stated that the government is treating young people in a wrong way. Regarding this, the government filed defamation case against Premalatha. Premalatha was sent a summon to appear before the court on 21st of this month. High court of Madras issued exempt for her to appear in person.
