Kochi: Malayalam star Dileep’s upcoming flick ‘Ramaleela’ is set to release on September 28 amid controversy over his alleged involvement in the abduction case.
‘Ramaleela’ was hitting the headlines because of its lead actor Dileep, who was arrested on July 10 on charges of being a part of the conspiracy to kidnap and sexually assault an actor.
Directed by Arun Gopi, the movie was supposed to release on July 21, but makers postponed the release date after Dileep’s arrest. ‘Ramaleela’ is finally hitting the silver screen on Friday amid boycott calls.
Renowned Kerala writer Saradakutty, who is the first one to issue the boycott call, said, “Dileep is doing time because he is likely to have done something criminal and illegal,” she said. “Most of the influential actors and politicians are supporting him. Not many have come out to help the actress and that is why I called for the film to be boycotted.”
Saradakutty said that she refused to put a single penny of her in Dileep’s pocket. She further said that her stand is also against male domination in the Malayalam film industry.
Recently, Dileep’s ex-wife and actor Manju Warrier issued a statement, supporting the release of the movie.
