Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Fidel World Chess Championship match between India’s Vishwanathan Anand and Norwegian, Magnus Carlsen on Thursday. The match begins on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa praised Vishwanathan Anand as the greatest sportsman of India and Magnus Carlsen as the ‘Mozart of Chess’. She also added that Vishwanathan Anand is a role model and inspiration for Indian chess players. He made everyone proud with his resplendent ability in chess.
Vishwanathan Anand got national recognition when he won the National Sub Junior Chess at the age of 14. From then, he became the youngest Indian to be entitled to International Master title. The Indian Chess genius thanked chief minister Jayalalitha for her support to the game and Magnus Carlsen is also happy with the support and good happenings in Chennai.
