King of melody, playback singer Manna Dey passes away at 94

Legendary playback singer Manna Dey passes away early on Thursday morning after prolonged illness. He was admitted to Narayana Hrudayalaya for respiratory problems, one of the senior doctors said that he died due to cardiac arrest at 3:50 am.

Manna Dey had given several hit songs during the decades of his career. ‘Pucho na kaise maine rain bitayee’, ‘Ay mere pyare watan, ay mere bichade chaman’ and ‘Laga chunari main daag’ are a few to name from several of his hits. He has won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Manna Dey has 2 daughters, one of whom is based in the US. His family said that his daughter and son-in-law, Shumita Deb and Jnanranjan Deb were by his bedside when the end came.

We are saddened by his loss, but he died peacefully. His last rites will be performed later in the day.” Jnanranjan said.
