Mumbai: Rajnish Kumar, who has been appointed as the new chairman of State Bank of India, will take over the charge on October 7.
Kumar (59) will take over from Arundhati Bhattacharya as chairman of India’s largest bank for a period of three years. He is currently is in charge of retail banking at SBI.
Rajnish holds a master degree in Physics and listed traveling and playing badminton among his interests. He started his career in SBI in 1980 as a Probationary Officer.
In 2013, Arundhati became SBI’s first woman chairman. She was given a one-year extension in October 2016.
Bhattacharya will retire on October 6.
