Sri Lankan Government has rejected the proposal of allowing Tamilnadu fishermen for fishing in Katchatheevu. In this regard, Sri Lankan Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne said to reporters that Tamil fishermen will not be permitted to fish in Katchatheevu region.
He said that Tamil Nadu fishermen should not break the doctrine of international maritime border.
If Sri Lankan Government allows Tamil fishermen to fish in Katchatheevu, it will be great injustice to fishermen in northern part of Sri Lanka says Sri Lankan Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
Sri Lankan Navy arrested Tamil fishermen fishing in Katchatheevu. Then, both the parties came into negotiation to solve the problem.
In this case, Sri Lankan fishermen group accepted the consent of Tamil fishermen that Tamil fishermen will be allowed to fishing in Katchatheevu and Talaimannar only for 70 days in a year.
But, the Sri Lankan Government has rejected proposal of allowing Tamil fishermen to Katchatheevu.
