Chennai: Tamil superstar Vijay’s upcoming flick ‘Mersal’ has landed in legal trouble as the Madras High Court on Friday passed an interim order restraining the makers of the movie from using the title ‘Mersal’.
As per reports, producer A Rajendran filed a petition claiming that he had registered the title ‘Merrasalaitan’ and ‘Naan Merrasalaitan’, with the Tamil Film Producers Council in 2015. He also claimed to have been renewing the registration every year.
According to sources, Rajendran said that he had selected the title Merrasalaitan for launching his son in the film industry in 2015.
After hearing his plea, Justice Anita Sumanth restrained the makers from using the title ‘Mersal’ till October 3.
‘Mersal’ is the most awaited film of the year starring Vijay and actress Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles.
The teaser of the flick released on September 21 and in less than 24 hours it grossed around 10 million views. The movie is scheduled for release on Diwali, October 18.
Vijay had delivered many hits and he is best known for his roles in ‘Enthiran’, ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Theri’. Apart from ‘Mersal’, he shared the screen space with Kajal in ‘Thuppakki’ and ‘Jilla’.
