Chennai: Jailed interim general secretary of AIADMK, VK Sasikala has been granted five-day parole on Friday to meet her ailing husband.
According to reports, after spending eight months in jail for corruption, Sasikala obtained a five-day parole from the Parappana Agrahara Prison in Bengaluru to travel Chennai in order to meet her husband M. Natrajan.
As per sources, Natrajan (74), who was admitted to the hospital in September after multiple organ failure, had a liver and kidney transplant on Wednesday.
Sources say that Sasikala has been granted parole with conditions. She has been banned from any political activity or statements to the media. Also, she will stay at the house of her sister-in-law Ilavarai, who is in the same jail.
Sources reveal that Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran arrived at the prison with a group of supporters awaiting her release.
Previously, Sasikala was denied 15-day parole because of incomplete paperwork. The jail officials rejected her application, saying a certificate from a local MLA or MLC or gazetted officer certifying that Mr. Natrajan was seriously ill was not enclosed with the application.
Sasikala, the close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa, was sentenced to four years in jail in a disproportionate assets case by the Supreme Court in February.
